What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Missouri

I am trying to figure out how to move a child support case from California to Michigan. I recently divorced and we were living in California. I moved to Missouri and my ex husband and our son moved to Michigan. I need to move the case to Michigan so I can get the amount lowered due to a new job and I need a visitation schedule set.

How do I go about it?

Doesn't matter. CA is now an inconvenient forum.

Motion for change of venue.
It matters if CA is still the home state. If they haven't been in Michigan for six months then UCCJEA doesn't allow it to move. However if they have been there for more than six months then motion for change of venue to Michigan.

In my experience, no judge is going to require both people to come continually from Michigan and Missouri to CA to come to court because rarely are these things done in one hearing.... Neither one of them is here anymore.

However, IMO, the case should move to where dad and kiddo are. Sounds like mom is about to forum shop (but that's the skeptic in me).

I am not disagreeing with you. Jurisdiction will be where dad and kiddo are. (Which i thought was Michigan) The problem is they may not take jurisdiction IF dad and kiddo haven't been there for six months to establish that as the home state.

I wan tth forum to be where my ex husband and son are. I have no problem with that but am unsure how to go about getting the forum moved. I have been in MO since July. they have been in MI since May. I need to get this resolved quickly as I cannot make the full payments as slated by CA as it was based on CA wages and MO did not have the same wage structure.

that's called forum shopping. from the looks of it, you may have to file when they are officially residents of MI. resolved quickly? don't count on that.

I wouldn't call that forum shopping...not when everybody moved, and dad moved first. If he moved in May as indicated, some time this month will make it six months, so that's not a problem.
