| | | Divorce without an attorney What is the name of your state? IL
How does a person file for divorce in IL without an attorney? My soon to be ex-husband and I kind of agree on that we both want this divorce to be as peaceful as possible due to our 10 year old daughter. We don't believe that all divorces have to be nasty and spiteful, am I being too naive or what?
Also, can a spouse get alimony if both parties have been employed throughout the marriage? If so, what is it based upon? What is the name of your state? Illinois |

| | | Alimony concerns, IL I have another question...
How long does it take for a divorce to be final? I want to move on with my life, but I am joint owner of our home. We have decided that we are going to do a quick claim deed and he will refinance under his name alone, which is fine with me. As long as our property is divided fairly as we discussed.
Also, l'll no longer be employed in approx. 6 week, my employer is downsizing, and I will be affected by this, will I qualify for alimony then? You didn't answer my original question regarding alimony. If both parties have worked throughout the entire marriage, does a spouse qualify for alimony if one income almost doubles the income of the other spouse or is alimony only awarded to non-working spouses?

State, Illinois | I have to agree with Bali on this one. Once alimony is thrown into the mix, it is unlikely to remain amicable.

Probably but quite frankly, with a child involved that would be a HUGE mistake. You have no idea the problems you will face two years, five years whatever from now. An experienced attorney will save money in the long run. |

Since you have obviously been given notice, what have you done to find employment? Or are you sitting back and waiting for week 6 and you're packing your belongings and walking out the door for the last time? You'd be not working by choice. Also, alimony is taxable. |

She feels she should get alimony just because she feels men should pay women for the privilage they gave the man by marrying him.
If the husband was facing company downsizing and loss of income, tough sh@t, find another job and pay up! |
