Ex trying to modify alimony....help!!!!!

What is the name of your state? Florida
I have been divorced for 1 year after a 25 year marriage to a doctor. He wanted a "quick" divorce without lawyers!! He agreed to pay me $4000/month for life plus medical insurance, and signed the divorce settlement. He is now in arrears of over 30 thousand dollars!!! He tells me tonight that he can not pay that much and is going to take me back to court for a modification of alimony to $100/month and wants the arrears dropped!!! I had to back to work as a nurse (did NOT work the entire marriage) just to keep food in my mouth and he has fudged all the legal papers to make him look like a pauper now!!! Can someone PLEASE give me some advice on this matter!!!!

My response:

Please exactly write each and every word of your Marital Settlement Agreement.

You are working as a nurse and still want him to pay $4000 a month in alimony? We should feel sorry for you? Most people have to work for a living. You are not married now. He doesn't HAVE to support you forever. And nurses can make very good money.

The fact of the matter is that an agreement was signed for him to pay 4000.00 a month.

She needs to take that agreement to an attorney and see what can be done to enforce it.

You are right, but there is also a chance that it can be modified based on a change in circumstances.

$100 a month for a 25 year long marriage seems low, but it's a good thing that OP realised that she had to get a job.
