I am married to a man in FL that pays both alimony and child support (full amount for 1 child and 1/2 amount for one child living with us now) each month. He lost his job and in his new job makes less than 1/2 of what he previously made. We recently filed with our attorney to stop paying the 1/2 child support for the child that lives with us. Her attorney agreed, however, they also stated that the ex wants to claim the child living with her on her taxes since she is now working. I know that the alimony is non-modifiable, but what are my options outside of that?


His ex gets half of his income before taxes. In addition, I am solely the one saving money for both of his children's education since my husband and his ex had saved very little, and his children are near college age.

Any advice would be appreciated.

That is the easy and cheapest"quid pro quo". He stops paying the 1/2 and she gets to claim on the taxes.
You knew going into this marriage that was the deal-alimony and child support.

What is HER contribution to the child that is now living with you? You have one, she has one...what is your lawyer saying about that? Paying her full support for the one child she does have certainly takes away from the one you two are raising. Have you worked up the guidelines to see what the support would be considering the change in circumstances? Sometimes, lawyers have to be managed. Do some of your own legwork.
