family support earned income? What is the name of your state? California I recieve what is called family support on my devorce decree $2,300 a month. My accountant says I only have to claim spousal support as income not child support. My x says he can write off the whole thing. What is the law with Family support for tax purposes? |

In DE "Family support" is considered ..."undifferentiated alimony and child support" and is entirely taxable to the recipient (you) and a tax deduction for your ex- husband. In California, "Family support" may have another definition. Hopefully one of our CA lawyers (IAAL, stephenk, et al) will drop in with a definition as pertains to CA law. |
