family support earned income?

What is the name of your state? California
I recieve what is called family support on my devorce decree $2,300 a month. My accountant says I only have to claim spousal support as income not child support. My x says he can write off the whole thing. What is the law with Family support for tax purposes?

Your accountant would knows his business, let your ex do and think what he wants, its his hinny when he gets caught... dont screw with the IRS.. everyone knows that or at least he will when he gets audited... just sit back and laugh it will be no skin off your hinny....

eveyone knows or should know that child support is not a writeoff..

In DE "Family support" is considered ...

"undifferentiated alimony and child support" and is entirely taxable to the recipient (you) and a tax deduction for your ex- husband. In California, "Family support" may have another definition. Hopefully one of our CA lawyers (IAAL, stephenk, et al) will drop in with a definition as pertains to CA law.
