What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Colorado

My father in law and his wife are getting divorced. She was the primary breadwinner when they lived together. They have been living seperatly for about 2 years (not legally seperated) and she got laid off about 8 months ago. She is now trying to seek spousal support. Can she do that since he can prove he has never been the primary breadwinner and has never supported her?

Yes, she can do that. Whether or not the judge will rule in her favor is anybody's guess. However, they are still married and spouses do have an obligation to support each other.
