What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NC

I am in a real pickle. I make on average $3,200/month (net) and my current wife makes on average $2,800/month (net). I just got word that my alimony and child support is going to be $2,700/month. What can I do? My X sits at home all day waiting for the checks to roll in.

How can I reduce this amount or "hide assets" to cover myself?

Should I seperate?
Should I "get fired?"
Do appeals really work....they are $5K here to start one....that is 5K I don't have.

No one here is going to give you advice on how to skirt the law. However, we might give you advice on asking for a reconsideration.

First...what happened? Did you not show up for court or not provide the court with documentation regarding your income?

What is your gross income? How many children are involved and how much of that figure is child support?
