How do we find out?

What is the name of your state? il

My husband and I have been paying 1000.00 per month to his ex who is diabetic and says she is going blind and can't work. However, she does have a drivers license. We have been paying for 5 years and it is "permanent" until she gets married or death. She lives in another state. How can we find out if she is living with someone, married or is working? We can't afford and attorney and have run out of ideas. Please help.

*** You could hire a PI to investigate.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!

I would also recommend a PI but if you can't afford an attorney, you probally can't afford a PI.

If you don't mind my asking, what were the terms in their divorce papers. Do they have children together? All of this may effect the outcome.

Since your husband signed the divorce papers has his income become less? If it has he might be able to pettion to the courts to lower his allomony cost. But I believe the prove must be that the lower income was unavoidable (Laid off, economy, etc...)

My response:

You have two choices:

1. Call and ask her, or

2. Hire a private investigator.

My response:

Please DO use your spell checker. The word is spelled DIVORCE; not "devorce".

*** A PI is FAR less expensive than an attorney. I would imagine that this could be done for a few $100, where an attorney pursuing this through legal channels would cost several $1000.

How do we find out?

The terms of the divorce are very simple....she had a good attorney (of which my husband paid for) and there are absolutely no children. They were married for about 13 years and during the last 4 or 5 she did not work. Therefore, the judge played right into her hand. She got half of the marital home, half his 401 K, retirement and 1000.00 per month. Go figure?

How do we find out

My point is that I was answering some questions that other people had regarding the terms of the divorce. I think that it is unfair that a judge can make a ruling of "permanent" alimony. If she is as bad as she says, she should qualify for disability and the last time she did she was denied. Our problem is that we feel there is no way out. She could be living with someone for all we know and collecting the checks. We don't know how to keep updated on here situation?

First things first. The terms of the divorce and alimony are really not in your control. Her health is none of your business. Her ability or interest in working is also none of your business. She could be a scum sucking leech who is also the wicked witch of the west and you are still only a bystander. The divorce terms were set before you were in the picture and are NOT modifiable unless so stated in the papers. Meaning, YES, the judge can and apparently did order unrevokable alimony based on the facts he heard in court. I am presuming you have access to a copy of the divorce papers, so why don;t you type up the actual passage referring to the alimony so we can make a better judgment? And in the meanwhile, if YOUR HUSBAND IS UPSET, let him handle it. This is not your fish fry.
