Ongoing alimony payments

I reside in the state of Louisiana. My ex-wife and I were married for 17 years, during this time period she never worked. We acquired several rental properties during this marriage. She has been awarded $2500.00 a month in alimony from me. I am wondering if I will have to continue to pay this support even after the community property has been settled (since LA is a community property state)? She claims she cannot get a job now at the age of 55. I have spent over $12,000.00 in attorney fees already, just wondering if I should keep putting out money for an attorney for a battle that I may have already lost. Please help!

Hi, as I understand at least in NH alimony is usually awarded for a time period, until the person can get gainful employment. I would think at age 55 (young) she could get some job training and find some work. I can understand how frustrating all this is, as I am disabled on on the other end...court awarding me alimony. I think the point is depending on the circumstances that everyone gets what is fair. WEll we can hope :>)
I would certainly ask my attorney to please give you some percentage of winning..maybe. I could not afford an attorney so I do not have the experience. In any event, good luck!!! Hopefloats-2
