Some questions about support.

What is the name of your state? California
Married 21 years all kids are 18 or older. We both want this divorce. I am waiting for an appointment with an attorney for a consult but I was wondering if you can't give me a heads up on the laws here.
It was agreed between us both that I didn't work, his jealousy made it almost impossible by making my bosses mad or accussing them of looking at me the wrong way, but later he adjusted to, me working for my childrens school since half of it ws at home placing calls for substitutes, but in the summer months I cleaned and painted for the return of students and substituted for secretarial staff along with my normal secretarial job and lunch time help. I was injured and received temp work comp benefits. The temp $ ran out but I'm coming to the end soon I hope and can return to work elsewhere .
He figured in Min wage earnings for me along with his base earnings, meaning he took out unplanned Over time that he gets on a regular basis but mostly in fire season, He has saved up a lot of holiday days and sick days which he says he can cash in , he was going to use it to help in purchasing a house for us. I am not sure I would even want it but would like to know what is legal regarding it. I know he worked those not me except of course the 24/7 days I spent with our 5 kids and held down a lot of odd jobs like babysitting to pay medical bills and of course the job I lredy mentioned and the pay for work comp. He also wants to buy all the retirement in way of taking all the debt which is close to equal in amount but then lists the debts like he is claiming all he can afford is a certain amount b/c he took all the debt when I paid for my half with retirement. I had small retirement of my own through my job but he advised me to cash it in after I was no longer working for the school. He helped spend it and all my income just like I helped him. It was He who said not to work. Then acts like I didn't want too when the time comes to seperate. Ok bottom line is Over time and what amounts are usually added when calculating alimony, I was told I get no medical once it is final, however I can purchase a cobra plan. also I get the support for half of the time of the marriage which he is wanting 7 years since he wants to retire I will ask for half. Yes I know I'm lucky to be getting what I am and he was lucky to have a maid, child care 24/7 on call 365 days a year. One more question. Do we list gifts from ech other? Like a tool chest with all tools & bench, or maybe a car with a big red bow? Just wondering even though we are listing them as community property anyway. Thanks

I have an apointment today, Only Im not sure if I can retain her, since I have no way of paying her. I can at least pay for a consult. I was hoping to just get a little something for heads up but I guess I dont need one. I don't want to take him for everything and I have enough compassion to see to it that he can pay his bills but this man is very smart and protected himself well in a lot of ways. I guess the questions I ask can go either way, but I don't want to fight and break his bank either. I guess I spent 21 years caring for him and the kids it's time to look out for me. I have always been afraid to post this type of ques here b/c of the bashing I saw other women get, but I'm only trying to protect myself. Plus I plan on working and am looking forward to it..
If I'm not mistaken it was you who saved my butt last year telling me about a nunc pro tunc (i hope i got it right?) Anyway I would be living on the street, or close to it, if it wasn't for you!! I think I surprised him when I fixed it. He thought I was full of B.S. Until the papers showed up, I was even able to do it over the phone do to my disabilities and driving the distance. Thank you, Theresa
