Spousal Support. How long should a person have to pay?

What is the name of your state? California.
A friend of mine was only married for 5 years and has been seperated or divorced for eight years now and still paying spousal support. How long can this go on? Five years is not considered a long term marriage. She has been living with her boyfriend now for the past five years. The only reason they haven't got married is they know if they do then the spousal support will stop.

Your "friend" will need to review his CO. It will tell him how long he is to pay support.
