| I'm asking this on behalf of a long suffering friend of mine He is disabled and exists solely on his VA pension and a small social security payment. Will these be taken into consideration if his soon to be ex wife were to pursue him for spousal support? |

| I thank you for responding LB. However, in investigating this a little further, it's obvious that the situation regarding Military support issues isn't straight forward. Divorce, spousal and child support where one (or both) spouse is in or retired from the Military is a complicated matter, and I'd suggest to anyone that they read whatever they can lay their hands on about the subject. The following sites are excellent resources. However, in just browsing this subject, it's something that I would definatetly advise they seek legal advice on and to make sure that the attorney/lawyer of their choosing is knowledgeable in the US Former Spouses' Protection Act. | Oh I totally agree (but that was not your question ). In any matter (especially where money is concern) you should retain an attorney. People do not realize that a few thousand for an attorney today, will save them 60k over the next 18+ years etc..

| Sorry LB! - I didn't mean to cause offense. You answered my original question - and I thank you. You are right - there is no substitute for good legal advice - and in reading just a little on this subject - money spent beforehand would be a sound investment. |

| You may well change your mind about that little endearment - sorry, but I thought this was funny. An engineer dies and reports to the Pearly Gates. St. Peter checks his dossier and says, "Ah, sorry, you're in the wrong place." So the engineer reports to the gates of hell and is let in. Pretty soon, the engineer gets dissatisfied with the level of comfort in hell, and starts designing and building improvements. After a while, they've got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and the engineer is a pretty popular guy. One day God calls Satan up on the telephone and says with a sneer, "So, how's it going down there?" Satan replies, "Hey, things are going great. We've got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and there's no telling what this engineer is going to come up with next." God replies, "What??? You've got an engineer? That's a mistake -- he should never have been sent down there; send him up here." Satan says, "No way. I like having an engineer on the staff, and I'm keeping him." God says, "Send him back up here or I'll sue!" Satan laughs uproariously and answers, "Yeah, right. And just where are YOU going to get a lawyer?" |
