What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia

How can alimony be transferred from one state to another? I know child support can be, but can alimony? It was my understanding that alimony has different components than child support.

Yes, alimony can be transferred just like child support.

Your understanding is correct. Children cannot support themselves and therefore the parents are required to provide support. Adults on the other hand can support themselves in all but an extremely limited amount of cases.
