| I think BB's point is anything we could offer would be a guess. It all depends on what you're willing to offer, what she's willing accept, and so on. Considering that she's likely going to get ~ half of the net assets, the difference in income and her potential ability to earn will come into play. Also, what you're thinking about custody of the children may or may not be what she's thinking OR what actually occurs. So you should also keep potential child support in mind.

Alimony would be separate from that. In addition, even if you have the children almost equal time, the disparity in your incomes means that you will be paying some significant child support as well. You REALLY need an attorney. |

What is it going to cost me?I realize I have to give her half of everything. That will be worth it to be happy again. I also realize that I will have to pay some child support because I will not have them all the time. With the calculators I have seen if we have joint custody it will be anywhere from $400-900 for both children. I can handle paying this a month. I just want to get her spousal support out of the way. I know it will be a good number. Is there any way to figure it out? Rough idea? Thanks |

YOU: I'll give you NO spousal support. HER: I want $600,000 You: BITE ROCKS!!! I'll give you $1,000 per month for two years to get you retrained. HER: I want $500,000 and so on and so on..... Get the point now?

| If a judge has to decide....there there is basically a worst case scenario and a best case scenario....a judge wouldn't order a lump sum unless the parties agreed. A worst case scenario might be something along the lines of combining your two incomes, dividing it in half, and then ordering you to pay her enough alimony....on a lifetime basis, to bring her up to 1/2 of your combined incomes. Example: 80k+15k=95k 95k/2=47.5k 47.5k-15k=32.5k Potential alimony A best case scenario might be that you would be ordered to pay some sort of amount for a few years until she can get a degree or otherwise get training so that she can fully support herself. Otherwise, its like BB said....there is no way to predict anything |
