Does the financial seperation occur after the petition for divorce is intially filed or at the very end when the final divorce doc is drawn up and signed....

trying to figure out the best thing to do w/ extra cash i'm trying to put away for the lawyer fund....

Consult a local attorney, however its most likely that it truly starts when the property settlement agreement is signed, or when the judge makes orders on your property settlement if you cannot come to an agreement.

Whatever you do, if you are the provider of health insurance for your spouse, do NOT cancel that prior to a divorce being final. If you are the provider of car insurance for a car that includes your name on the title, don't cancel that either, until the car is out of your name.
