EEOC's mediation

What is the name of your state? California

I have filed charge of discrimination in hiring against a company with EEOC. Now, I received an invitation letter to participate in mediation because the company which I have filed charge against has desired to mediate this matter. What is negative and positive of mediation? Is there any monetary benefit involving in settlement at mediation stage?
