Is this accusation something I need to worry about?

What is the name of your state? CA

Over the past 3 months my wife & I have been having serious problems with our landlord and downstairs neighbors, explained here: http://forum.freeadvice.com/showthread.php?t=338573.

In short, after living in a place for 3 years without a single issue, crazy neighbors moved in and in addition to making a ton of noise have complained about us making noise and threatening them that we'd get them evicted, etc. Neither of us have ever said a word to them. The front office has done nothing about it as these people have beaten us to the punch and they've basically said it's "your word against theirs". They even called the cops on us after my wife walked into the appt with shoes on which prompted banging and the police call. Lately they've begun stalking us by the whole bunch of them coming out onto their patio to stare when we walk to our car. Yes, we are moving but still have 30 days to go.

Last week I confront a couple of teenagers who climb over a wall to get into our complex from outside. That day there were footprints on our car which is parked near the wall. I told them about the footprints and that if it happens again I'll call the police. One kid got a little wild and began yelling but nothing crazy. It draws out the crazy neighbors and they began yelling at me as I walked by them without a word.

On Friday I hear the neighbors call over the teenager to talk about the incident and they ask if I went to them about their scooters. The kid says no, he was saying that I stepped on his car. The neighbors go off yelling that I'm an f'ing idiot and that they call the front office about us all the time and called the police, etc. They tell the teen to go to the front office and complain too, "to play it up".

Lo and behold as my wife goes to the front office today to ask them to get the neighbors to stop harassing us during our 30 days, she's told that the teen went in with his mom on friday to say that I was threatening him. First of all, the "teen" is twice my size. Second of all, the only threat made was to call the police. We're now worried if all these people feel strong together, what can happen? If I were the kid's parent I'd complain too and if his mom thinks that we "threaten" our downstairs neighbors she may be scared herself.

What can we do aside from leaving? We can't get out soon enough. TIA.

I have no way of knowing whether you should be afraid of the kids, but I don't see much here that should make you worry about the police. They'll likely roll their eyes and tell everyone to stay away from each other as they try to clear out of there as quick as they can.

Lie low and get out.

Thanks Carl, that's exactly what we're planning.
