It depends ... who is your prospective employer? If they do a decent background check, they will find the record without the use of your state criminal history anyway.
But, if you are employed at a job where they have to run your criminal offender record via fingerprints, in CA the return will result in a printout to the prospective employer saying something akin to: "No disqualifying convictions found" ... or, "Disqualifying conviction found." There wouldn't be a list of all offenses included in the return. If your record has been expunged, it likely won't show up in this return ... but, it IS possible. And old court and police records are a different matter.
