Another using son's identify with shoplifting arrest

What is the name of your state? crime in Florida, residence in PA

Today, my son received a notice of court date from Miami/Dade Florida regarding a shoplifting arrest. At the time of the offense he was with us (parents) in western Maryland and we live in Pennsylvania. Only time he was in florida was in 1992 at Disney World, and at the Miami airport transfering to Cancun in 1997!

I'm curious what the process will be to clear this up. We have contacted the States Attorney and they are sending up some Identity form to fill out. We also need to hire a lawyer to file a motion, or appear in person, to be excused from the court date or a bench warrant will be issued!!!!!

Anyone have any experience in this area, a type of identify theft? What will the process be? Can the arrest record be cleared? How much will this cost us?

We suspect a high school "friend" but nothing firm unless we see a picture.

Thanks
