Bad public defender

My trial hearing starts tomorrow. Can I fire my public defender for he/she is not representing me to the best of their ability. I had confronted my public defender that I wanted to get another attorney and he/she told me that I could'nt do that. Can I fire my public defender in court tomorrow?

You can try, but many PD offices don't have the luxury of giving you a new attorney when you request it. Unless you have a good reason for the judge, chances are you will not receive new counsel that day.
