Being Sued

Being Sued
What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

OK, so last night I heard through the grapvine that I am being sued.. That a place I used to volunteer at, received numerous packages from the plantiff, that were given to one guy and then past on to the owner, who emailed me today and asked for my mailing address, since I have not volunteered for over a year with his company, that I am being sued and have 30 days to respond.

This is not a proper or correct service, am I right?
