how can I find out if there is a bench warrant for my arrest? I didn't appear for a contempt of court hearing in douglas county, colorado on may 19, 2003 since I now live in australia.

Try coming back to the U.S. That will tell you immediately.

On a more serious note, you need to call the court in Douglas County.

it all depends on how serious the charges are...

If its serious like rape, child porn etc...stay in austraila the rest of your life.

If its a simple traffic ticket, then call from a PAY phone, or have a friend locally in CO, call and ask what can be done to resolve this....hey it could be: pay the fine and its over with.
