Can they do this??What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina The other day I went to Subway where my ex roommate works to ask her about some money she owed me and get some food. I was very polite about it and she was very rude and denied my request. Today I've been told that if I go back there the manager gave her permission to call the cops. Can they do this and if I get arrested can I sue the corporation? |

Yes you can sue them - it is your right. Will you win??? - don't count on it. This is not a battle that you would find worth fighting. You have a better shot suing the ex-roomie for the money owed.

| Yes, store management has every right to ban you from entering the store because of your past debt collection behavior. They can ban you for lots of other reasons too, or no reason at all. You have been put on notice that you are not to enter the store again. If you do, then expect to be arrested for trespassing with no real defense. Quote:

Who told you that? The ex-roomie? I would call the manager and politely explain what happened, leaving all emotions out of the conversation, and promise not to question her indebtedness again while shopping with your money at his store. Any manager, who isn't also a teenager, should realize the value of an employee who doesn't pay their bills vs. the value of a cash carrying regular customer. (of course, he might be hitting it, so all bets are off) Do you have proof on paper she owes you money? Can you prove she owes you money through witnesses to verbal agreements(if applicable in your state) or by other means? Does she owe enough to even make this worthwhile? Send ex- a letter demanding payment within thirty days, and for each month outstanding, you will charge 6-7% interest. If not paid, you will take her to small claims court. You will have to pay to file and you will have to summons all witnesses. If you lose, you might have to pay her defense fees. If she fails to appear, you may get a default judgment in your favor. You may never collect that money.
