What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Newport Beach, CA

My citation said that I need to appear at court today at 8:15 am. I was there today but the clerk told me that my case had not been filed yet by the DA. So I got my citation stamped and went back home.

Does this mean that the case might not be filed at all?

Or is this something common and all it means is that there was an overload of cases and they will file my case soon?

I couldnt get a straight answer out of anybody at court.

*Case was misdemeanor assault/battery with no injurys*

No one can tell you whether it will or will not be filed. Maybe it will ... maybe it won't.

The state has one year to file, so be wary. You might check the county court website frequently., or even call the DA's office to find out what is going on. It might be that they have no intention of filing at all.
