Caught attempting to open an ambulance. What can happen?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? OK

I was stupid and when leaving a restaurant for dinner I saw an EMSA (ambulance) vehicle. I attempted to open the drivers side door once and two other doors on that side. I did this with no malicious intent. I proceeded around it to get in my friends car to leave, thinking nothing of it. Two EMSA guys were right behind us. They stopped us and started talking to us. It was all my fault, my friends had nothing to do with it. I apologized profusely to them, stating I made a bad decision, etc etc. We then left and drove down a few stores where my friends wanted to shop for some shoes. Well then lo and behold a cop car shows up, then another. They park behind my friends car. I then go to them and tell them I was was the person they wanted to speak to and told them what I did and blah blah blah. Again I apologized. The got all the info from myself and my friends and ran our stuff. We were all clean. None of us has any criminal background. All college graduates and all that good stuff. I apologize some more. They say they have to report this kind of activity to the FBI. The EMSA supervisor comes out and talks to them. Nobody gets arrested and they let us go. The officer said I may be contacted. So what I want to know is what can happen to me? What is possible in the realm of charges against me? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

First off, stop talking to people. Everything you say can be used against you.
Sit tight and see if you're contacted by law enforcement. Do NOT talk to anybody who contacts you without speaking with a lawyer first. It would behoove you to research one now so you are ready.

I don't think there will be any future law enforcement contact as I don't think they could support any criminal allegation. The state would have to show that you intended to take the vehicle or steal from it for there to be any crime I know of. However, perhaps your state has some law on the books that makes it a crime to just TRY and enter an ambulance or emergency vehicle ... I doubt it, but it is possible.

If the police do contact you again, then you should speak with an attorney before speaking to them again.
