What is the name of your state? MN

Hi,
What is the difference between these 2 questions?

1- Have you ever been charged with committing any crime or offense?

2- Have you ever been convicted of a crime or offense?

I'm currently filling out an application, and I am asked these 2 questions in a row, so there must be a difference between the two.

Help! :)

(not sure if I'm posting in the right category...)

A charge is what happens after you are arrested (or, potentially, before). You are charged with DUI, but haven't been to court yet, for example.

A conviction is what happens when the judge finds you guilty.
