What is the name of your state? NY

I am in my mid 40's w/ very stable job history (+10 yrs w/ current company). 4 yrs ago I was convicted on a misdemeanor 155.25PL and was given a conditional discarge. the court gave me a "Certificate of Relief from Disabilities".

I have been hired w/ City of NY and on the application it asks if you've ever been convicted of a crime. It says that employment will be terminated if after investigation they find that you have lied. Don't want to lie and am not sure how to answer.

Will this show in the criminal background check ? Do I say that I've been convicted of petty larceny and it was discharged? Or, do I say that I've never been convicted because it was discharged.

Is discharged same as expunged? Can I look into getting this expunged, even though at the time of sentencing, I think I recalled signing something that says I wouldn't do this? What is the name of your state?
