What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia
Once a court date is set can they then change it and move it up several months? I have a feloney charge against me and have not seen a lawyer yet because court date was set 11 months from now.

Nothing precludes you from getting a lawyer now. A demand for a speedy trial gets a guarantee you will be heard during the next succeeding court term (or the charges will be dismissed). Since court terms commence twice a year, it is quite possible that the date given is in the next successive term anyhow.
