Crimestopper Tip

Recently I had the police show up in my house that someone had put in a crimestopper tip that the car in my backyard was stolen and also another car that I owned also. Now one car was there and I allowed them in to verify it. They checked it and said it looked odd but was ok. The second car I did not have for months and I dont have any evidence as to where I disposed of it. Now being that they checked the car I junked that one also as I didnt have a need for it. Now they are calling me again and again that they want to see it. They scheduled days and didnt show this has been going on for over a month so I told them I junked it and I did. They proceeded to request I send them the reciept for junking that one. I dont see a problem with providing them the reciept but I could get around to faxing it to them yesrday as I was in meetings all day.

The Police detective called about 17 times to the point I had to shut my phone off because he had not recieved my fax. He then proceeded to show up at my house demanding the reiceipt. I was not home at that time they dealt with my parents. Now this is really irritating me and the manner that they are handling this seems like harrasment. I dont need Detectives comming to my house every two weeks causing me and my family embrassment. Please help any advise would be appreciated...

Was the car that you junked yours?
I suggest you provide a copy of the junk receipt. If there is anything "fishy" on YOUR end, then you should also seek legal representation.

My question is that I dont have the reciept for it, How can I provide something I dont have.?
Nothing was fishy I bought the car as is used it for over a year without any issue. The second car was a junker that I had bought never drove it and also bought it legally. Is the police entitiled to demand of me such paper work or even worse arrest me for something I dont have in my possesion?

Thanks for the quick replies....

The police can ASK for anything. And they can't arrest you because you did not provide it, but if they have evidence of criminal activity that would have been refuted by such documentation, then they can arrest you for probable cause to believe you committed that crime or pursuant to an arrest warrant.

It really depends on what they are thinking happened here.

The only way you can get them to stop calling you is to get an injunction in court. Good luck, there.

On the other hand, you can simply call the detective and tell him that you do not have the paperwork and all the calls in the world are not going to change that. Then tell him you do not care to talk to him again, suggest he have a nice day, then leave it at that.
