Denied Assigned CounselWhat is the name of your state? New York My teenage son has felony, misdemeanor and violation charges in 4 different courts. 3 of those courts let myself and my son complete a financial affidavit and he was assigned a public defender. The 4th court denied our request for assigned counsel and didn't give us the option of completeing a financial affidavit. I thought the financial affidavit had to be completed first and then reviewed by the judge. That's how it worked in the other courts. Does this judge just have her own set of rules or is there something wrong here? I was told by her to show up with private attorney, which, by the way, I cannot afford. |

| What was the charge? Perhaps you should let the chips fall where they may for your son. If he doesn't get straightened out now, he never will and being at the mercy of the courts may be the best thing that ever happens for him. |

| Maybe the fourth judge was disgusting at your son wasting public resourses and valuable tax dollars. I hear they take exception to that (which comforts me). I agree with enjay, stop helping. How old is your son? Is he and adult? |

| the public defenders are a joke anyway, hiring a D.A. is about the same thing. They only make deals and could care less about helping you out.If there inoccent or the cops screwed up, try to see if there is "modest means" avalible in that area. Its for lower income. |
