Details of a trail by jury

Is there a way to find out about a court case that happened in Houston, TX in late 2005? Someone close to me had a trail by jury then and i'm trying to find out what happened in court, like what evidence the D.A. submitted, what evidence the defense submitted, the jury's verdict, and all. I have a feeling the court-appointed lawyer messed up the case, and as a result an innocent man was sent to jail.

The trail happened in Houston, TX but I live in NYC. How can I get the details of this? I think the case docket and what evidence submitted is public so I should be able to look at this, correct?

Thank you. What is the name of your state?

You can make a few phone calls, find out if it was handled in city, district or federal court, speak with the clerk and get transcripts of the trial.

Based on the original post, I believe the actual answer he's looking for can be found on the internet. For example, a quick googling turned up this responsive site: http://www.texasfortstrail.com/home/index.asp but there are obviously many others.

You Are Guilty, I was looking for transcript of the court trial. I'm assuming you knew what I meant (seeing that I'm in a legal aide forums) even though I made the spelling error. Thanks for that link for to the frontier trail... :-)

BelizeBreeze, I live in NYC so how can I get the transcript of the trial from here? It's not like I can drive by the courthouse and request it. Is there like a number I call and request this? I guess it'd be wishful thinking if the transcript were available online, right?

Well, maybe do as I suggested. Call first to find out who has the transcript then pay them the copy and clerk fees and mailing costs. We have a wonderfult thing here called the U.S. Postal Service and besides acting in the capacity of target fodder, they sometimes actually do deliver the mail.

Hi BelizeBreeze. I know what you meant, and that is what I am going to do. But what I wanted to know was how do I find out who has the transcript? The person close to me does not have a copy, and I don't want the lawyer to know that I am asking for this. I have a suspicion that the lawyer screwd up big time, but can't know for sure unless I know what happened in the trial. I told my girlfriend to look at another lawyer to confirm my suspicions.

I'm sorry if this sounds repetitive, but what i'd like to know is: where do i look to get a copy of the transcript. Like the courthouse where the trial happened? If so, is there like an office I would contact for this (like the transcripts office, clerks office, etc).

Does this look familiar?

Some federal courts now have a new program ("transcript pilot program" to be precise) that automatically puts transcripts on PACER five days after they're released (at least in NY, I don't know about TX). For that matter, I don't know if it even applies to criminal cases. But if that route doesn't pan out, you'll have to do it the hard way as BB mentioned. Don't forget that no matter what court it was in, transcripts are not free, and if it was a long trial, you could easily be looking at thou$ands in costs.

The reason it can be so expensive in Texas is because of the delivery system. They bound each transcript in Black Leather, tie it to the back of a pickup truck, and drag it down dirt roads to your front door.

I'm so going to hell for this one but... they still use the James Byrd Delivery Service in Texas?
