Exclamation

Do I need a lawyer?

What is the name of your state? NY

my friend (mr. X for this thread) from high school was arrested in California sometime ago, he was attending college there at the time, and was arrested on charges of assault/possession of a firearm + drug possession/distribution charges. we were friend in high school but i have not talked talked to him for at least half a year before his arrest, and since we graduated from high school, i talked with him half a dozen times at most. He went to college in California, I attended a college on the East Coast.

heres the problem, the police apparently found a hit list in his residence in California, with names of over 25 people, someone working with his defense team contacted me and informed me that mr. X told them that i, along with 2 other people, were co authors of this list. now i was read the names of some people that appeared on the list, and they included a friend of mines, however, nearly all of the names i do not recognize (but i was told all these names are of people from our high school, which had nearly 700 graduating seniors that year). i knew nothing of this list, nor did i know anything about his problems in CA, we barely talked and only met him twice since graduation (2005), last time i talked to him was about a year ago. just wondering what i should do to protect my self, from what i was told, mr.X have a lot of problems, drugs, delusional, ect. he was an honor student in high school but now apparently have a 0.00 GPA in college, even his parents didn't know what was going on.

any input will be greatly appreciated.

Seems like you got it right. Three things to remember, Deny,Deny and Deny. No sense in getting a lawyer unless you are charged with something. If police talk to you, Deny it one time and then stop talking to them.

I like your advice. Its nice to hear some people giving advice that doesn't tow their "parties" line.
