My mother recently received a letter to her address from the County which I have not lived in over a decade. The letter asked a series of questions regarding jury eligibility. It asks me for proof I no longer live in this county if I moved away. The proof entails sensitive documents such as copies of drivers license, tax return information, mortgage or lease info, which I don't feel the need to provide anyone. Am I legally required to respond to this notice?

How is it going to hurt to send the government a copy of a government document?

I would suggest that you provide the information.

you may not feel the need to provide anything to anyone....HOWEVER, if you fail to respond, then the court can issue a warrant, you can be contacted by law enforcement and "escorted" to the court to explain to the judge why you didn't feel the need to respond.:D

(pssstt....you need to just get over yourself and send a copy of your drivers license showing that you do not live in that county.)

You are required to prove to the court that you are no longer a county resident. If you do not you will be considered a county resident and must appear for jury duty if summoned or face a contempt charge.

You're being very silly here. Or maybe just overly paranoid for no apparent reason. I know with some courts you should be able to submit the proof online.

What is your issue with these so-called "sensitive documents". By the way, the information on your license is a public record anyway.

The reason being that none of it exists. I work and make good money here in this city but that is all. I don't drive, own a home, rent, pay utility bills etc. I live with a person who has everything paid off. They are demanding things in my name on paper where none exist. How do I proceed if I do not have the required documentation for this event?

By going to jury duty or going to jail.

I assume you've updated your driver's license?

I do not in this state. I have nothing documented in this state aside from tax return. That is all is all I have for the past decade.
Offer to give this with a portion of the social security # redacted.

What state? Do you live in New York now?

I don't remember what the list of acceptable proof is but I remember it being very simple to provide just the basics.

Then you are breaking numerous laws by not having certain documents updated with your latest address.

I guess the question is what laws am I breaking? I can not locate these. I thought that living free in my own country was legal. This country was founded on freedom is is not?

You weren't clear in your prior post. Do you have a driver's license in your current or prior state?

I can not produce the sensitive documents they are asking for. They do not exist. On paper I do not exist to the government there apparently.
