does college faculty allow to search my personal property?

What is the name of your state? Long Island, NY

Hello everyone. This is my first time here and i will need a big help. Any suggestion would be appreciate. I am international college student here. Around a month ago I had a beebee gun in my closet and somehow school's room assistant found it. Therefore they are charging me possession of weapon. the beebee gun was zipped inside a nylon case and there is no way for them to tell rather its a gun or something else. I am not denying my responsibility but my question is, do they have the right to search my property? again thanks for your help.

Were you/ are you living in university housing? If so, read your agreement. Your signing the agreement probably grants them the right to search your room.
