false information

What is the name of your state? North Dakota

I was given a 1900. gift card by a friend (who lives in another state) and told to purchase a specific thing for them and I did not then I used the card for something else that I kept for myself.

I was informaly question by state BCI (not read rights, not arrested and did not give written statement) and told the officer it wasn't me.

Yesterday I was phoned and requested to come to the station.I was told (by the officer) that next week I would be arrested for false information to a police officer. I was read my rights, and asked to give a statement. I refused to give additon information on this whole mess at the time of the meeting. I was never placed under arrest and was allowed to leave the meeting. What is the general punishment for this type of crime. I have no prior record of any kind.

Why would they not arrest for theft?

Any help or comment are welcome, and yes, it was a horrible thing I did.

This could be embezzlement or even outright theft, depending on the circumstances and the statutes in ND.

Rights not required.

And what does "BCI" stand for?

Without knowing the specific section(s) you will be charged with, there is no good answer. It could be anywhere between probation and a fine, to prison and a fine.

Because they prefer to obtain a warrant or an indictment.

Retain local counsel immediately!
