Falsified report and 6 charges

Good morning all, this message is coming out of Connecticut.

Approximately a week ago, my wife and I had a fight, nothing major, a simple domestic dispute. At the time it occurred I packed all my bags and left the house as it made no sense to be in a boiling pot. During our dispute I did shove her where she fell and obtained a small bump on her head. (This was after things were thrown at me - irrelevant). She ended up calling the cops who came, took her statement, etc., at the end of the day, my charges are: Strangulation, assault, larceny 1, larceny 6, breach of peace.

I in no way tried to strangle my wife and I'm thinking during the heat of the moment, and all the emotions going on, she may have said something to the degree that she feared for her life. She says she didn't, swears by it.

When I left the house, the cops came and asked where I was to where she answered I got in my car and left. They asked the make and model of the car, then issued an APB on the car. The APB they issued, was that I carjacked her. En-route to Florida to see my mother I was stopped in another state at gunpoint (guns to my head, neck, etc) and I was subsequently arrested for grand theft auto. Whatever initial report of me having a weapon went is anyone's question.

Anyhow, my wife believes the police up here will attempt to pin charges on me and wants to have everything dropped but I don't believe she can. She has been going through a lot of depression and has been on a variety of medication for anxiety, etc., we lost two daughters, you name it, hell and back.

Is there a mechanism to have charges as severe as this dropped. I called an attorney who solely called me back, told me my charges, and stated it would be too costly for me to hire him.

Please, can someone with some serious knowledge give me some pointers, even a number for a recognized attorney in CT, something anythingWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Now that the charges have been filed, they can't be dropped by your wife. The ball is in the state's court now. If you want to look for a lawyer, you can use the Find a Lawyer button on the right of the page or call your state's Bar Association.

Yes. I agree.

I don't believe our poster understands the seriousness of all this:

Unless the "things thrown at you" were hand grenades and you were pushing your wife to shield her from the blast, I agree with seniorjudge that this is very serious. When did shoving your significant other stop being a big deal? If I was charged with grand theft auto I wouldn't be posting on the internet, I would be in a conference with my lawyer.

Have you clicked that button yet?
