What is the name of your state? Virginia

What to expect when I go to court for Family Abuse: Assult? This is the first court date.

Thanks,
Mel

What is the statute you are being charged under? Do you have a criminal history?

Do you know the statute number?

Misdemeanors GENERALLY can get you up to one year in the county jail or a thousand dollar or a combination thereof.

Also, in some states, if you have a domestic violence conviction, you cannot possess a firearm.

I don't know what a statute number.. I have my warrant if arrest-misdemeanor (state) right here.... the only numbers that are on it is Section 18.2-57.2 code of virginia.... and Virginia crime code is ASL-1315-M1

More than likely, the judge will ask you if you want to plead guilty or not guilty.

If you want to plead guilty, you will either be sentenced that day or they may run a background check on you and sentence you later.

If you want to plead not guilty, a trial date will be set.

If you cannot afford a lawyer, ask the judge to appoint you a public defender before you plead (if that is what you want to do).

I don't know who will be there.

You should plead not guilty and talk to a lawyer.

I don't know enough about the facts of the case to tell you what kind of case you have.

Sounds like you don't have a lawyer, that's a big mistake. You will get some sort of fine or penalty without one, it's almost automatic. With a lawyer he might cost you a thousand but save you a thousand in fines.

They really hate that "public offender" crack. They're already overworked and underpaid and that might make them not give a sh1t about your case.

And why shouldn't PDs hate being cracked on? They work like dogs for pennies, for ingrates to call them names?

I am not allowed to type what I really think about it, so that will be all.
