fighting a drug charge

What is the name of your state? colorado

I was arrested for a possession of a schedule II. My question is this- what are the chances of having this charge dropped based on the fact that it is morally and ethically wrong to prosecute drug users? Our own gov't. 'experts' say that drug use should be treated as a medical/health issue and not a criminal justice issue. There is overwhelming evidence that the 'drug war' has not only failed, but created it's own set of problems. There are also very promising changes currently underway where this matter is concerned (i.e. Prop. 34 in CA, the federal ban on needle exchange, repealling the Rockefeller sentencing laws...)
Could I actually have a chance at changing these laws? And for those of you who think I'm just looking for a way to continue using drugs- You Are Wrong!! That is not what this is about. Yes, I would like to be drug-free. But having my freedom, children, ect... taken away from me as a threat for noncompliance, is wrong. You cannot force a person to change, and you cannot demand total abstinence from drug users who know no other way of living their lives. The system sets people up to fail. And incarcerating non-violent drug users for a simple possession is ludacris.
If someone out there thinks it may be possible to get these laws changed, how would be the best way to go about it?What is the name of your state?

**A: you are way out in left field. Even if you had 2 thousand supporters, you could not change the law.

Even if you could change the law, it'd be too late for the change of law to affect the outcome of your case.

Cranda, many Prosecutors and Judges would like to de-criminalize drugs.

However, what one 'likes' is different than what is.

The Prosecutors take an oath to uphold the law and only prosecute accordingly ('Do Justice' as defined by the Code).

But there is a solution for you. Stop doing drugs. Or stay home & lock the door & don't drive, operate machinery, be around kids, work where your accidents due to being high will be paid by the public (or will harm others), steal other's property to buy more dope, etc.

I don't care if you drug yourself to glory. I think you and yours are clogging the courts and causing a hugh expense beyond what you are worth.

Just stay home and do whatever you want without leaving your home.

..... I have become convinced everyone should take a urine test. Especially those on welfare.
If cops, pilots, bus drivers, many office workers, military, etc. have to pee in a bottle as a condition of earning their salaries, then welfare recipients and SSI recipients should pee in a bottle to get that government check.

So, Crank, I'd change the law, also.
I guess we should both write our legislators and wait ten years for a response.
