What is the name of your state? IL
I was charged with shoplifting in Oct. of 07. I have never been arrested before nor do I have any priors of any kind.
I have to go to court in 3 weeks. How should I proceed this case? I can't really afford an attorney but I would like to respectfully request that this charge be lessened to disorderly conduct.
Does any one have any advice on how I should proceed?
Thanks!

You would need a lawyer to do that.

If you are indigent, you can apply for a public defender.

If you are not, you'll have to pay for an attorney. I'd borrow the money if I had to.

Just "respectfully requesting" the charge to be thrown out isn't likely to happen.
