I was arrested for shoplifting in Georgia in 1997. I was released under the first offenders act and successfully completed the required counseling sessions as well as did not get into any additional trouble for the required 2 years. After such time, this charge was supposed to be sealed or expunged. I have tried unsuccessfully to have this done but the charge is still on my record and continues to come up in various situations that require a background check. Which court do I contact to have this removed from my record and what do I need to do/submit, etc?
