What is the name of your state? Michigan
My 15 year old son invited a friend to spend the night.
Later that night about 12 midnite the kid told me he was a runaway and had a big huge family fight and this was the his third time running away.
I called his parents first thing in the morning to pick him up.
His parents went ballistic and got irate and demanded I be charged with
harboring a runaway because I did not at the very instant call them.

and your question is?

no you probably can't get in big trouble for this incident, you did call the parents in the morning, you should have called them as soon you found ouut he was a runaway. but for this the da probably is not going to want to waste the courts time

Unless the kid had been reported as a runaway, you cannot be charged with anything if there is such a law. It would likely take the kid being gone 24 to 48 hours before the police would even take a report.
