Help me

What is the name of your state? South Carolina

I am 17 years old. My mom and I fight alot. We get in each others faces sometimes. Recently my mom kicked me out for 5 days and I had to sleep at different friends houses. They gave me clothes. My mom never called to see where I was or if I was ok. In order to come home, she made me call the police and they made her let me in because I am a minor. This past weekend I stayed at a friend's house and on Saturday my mom called me while I was visiting with my boyfriend and told me I had to be home at a certain time and clean my room. I did what she told me to do. My mom had me arrested for simple assault, being a runaway, being disrespectful, and not wanting me in the house because she is scared for my sister and herself. I have never had a run in with the law before. They set my bond at $2025. What can I do? They are saying I am an adult. Do I have anything I can do to help myself?

Well first off, did you assault anyone? You said you were being charged with assault, and several other things that aren't really crimes. (If being disrespectful was a crime... imagine the problems!).

Your mother legally has to provide three things for you: food, shelter, and clothing. She cannot kick you out of the house without making arraignments for you to stay somewhere else.

One of the most important things is to remain polite, don't be a kiss up, but don't go yelling at your mother in the courtroom either.

Don't take my word on these things, look up the laws yourself. Look for your state's legislature page, you can find them there.

There are a wide range of people on this forum, don't expect all of us to be friendly, especially if you are not.
