The date of arrest was 03/12/1981, in Tuxedo Twp, New York. The charges were 'criminal mischief' and 'possession of stolen property'. The person served 9 months. He was only 22 years old at the time and had no previous record.
There were some minor traffic violations in New Jersey since that time, but no other felony convictions. How can this person get their record expunged so that they can pursue a 'normal' life and go for job offers that currently prohibit such a background (examples: real estate sales person, used car dealer, wholesale car dealer).

Thanks!

No, you cannot erase or “expunge” criminal record information in New York State. But state law does allow the courts and DCJS to “seal” information about any case that was dismissed or that was otherwise terminated in your favor. Information about cases in which you were convicted of a “violation” rather than a “criminal offense” can be sealed.

There is a system called 'Certification' that could help you.

JETX - Thank you for the quick reply. I will check out the link you provided. Please, what does DCJS stand for? From your answer it does not sound as though his record could be 'sealed' since it was neither dismissed nor terminated in his favor (he did, after all, serve time...so wouldn't that imply neither of those things?).

Thanks again...
