| illegal seizure

The other day I was a guy I know came to my other friends house(also one of his friends),anyway.He was claiming that I stole a speaker box and stereo of his.He had an identical one that someone took from him.He was trying to make his way into my car and take my stereo. I called the police and they arrived and talked to us both,they listened to him first and put me into the police car so i wouldnt drive away,in my car.Long story short, is that they impounded my car so they can investigate.The guy never reported his theft from the vehicle and had no proof he ever had a owner stereo or speaker box.I of course never kept the reciept,but it was a couple years ago that i bought it anyway.The police didn't cite me out or book me or read my rights,they just took the car. Do they have a time limit? and is that even legal?Can people just go around claiming property, without good proof? Please help if you can,(not by just telling me im fu**ed )Thanks.My main question is if they have probable cause for the siezure ,but new they didn't have enough for the arrest,can they get away with it? |
