im 21 and my parents got me arrested.

What is the name of your state? wisconsin
im 21 years old and i have to take pills everyday. i had just been in the hospital and a few days after release i had slept over at a friends and forgotten my pills. my mom had me arrested and taken to a psych ward for trying to commit suicide. the doctors i talked to said i wasnt trying to commit suicide and i was released. but if i dont listen to my mom then i get re-arrested and go back. when the cop arrested me, i did not get read my rights. my friends had called the cops when i was over there because my step dad had broken into the house. my dad was never questioned about it. no warnings or anything. what should i do to get out of the house legally?

HI msi cracker: I don't understand what's going on in your situation other than you possibly attempted suicide. What were you initially arrested for, and who told you that you would be "re-arrested"? Have you ever been judged incompetent and commited before? What have you been diagnosed with, and what medications do you take everyday?

Sounds like mental health commitals to me. Attempting or even commiting suicide is not illegal. Assisting is, but you could not have been arrested for trying to do yourself in. There are statutes on the books that allow officers to detain you and admit you to a hospital for an evaluation. Certain aspects must be met, like he must articulate that you are a danger to yourself or others. That you are unable to cope if left to yourself, and a list of other stuff to basically say you are crazy enough to be forcibly removed from society. If the meds keep you straight and you continue to take them and being 21 yrs old - I dont see how you can be kept at home when you want to leave. What are you diagnosed with?

I believe we have not heard the writer's complete story.
I am sure Mom's side would be quite different.

Thanks for the clarification on two questions, but you didn't answer the other two questions, so I'm left to assume you have either been judged in the past to be a danger to yourself and/or others and that someone is warning you they're getting ready to judge you that way again (i.e. there is a history). Attempting suicide can be good enough reason for a magistrate to do whatever it is he does in order to have you committed against your will. The doc doesn't necessarily have to keep you, though, after you are evaluated. I'm going to guess that the docs and your parents have told you something along the lines : "if you do this again, you are going to be commited again". It's somewhat like an "arrest", I think. It's like Gkris said -- they can detain you long enough to get the job done.

You sure are young to have been diagnosed with Addisons. Is the medication making you feel like doing yourself in? Or are you trying to do yourself in? Addisons, this day and time, because of treatment, carries an OK prognosis. I think your parents obviously care a lot for you and perhaps they just don't want to see you neglect your health and attempt suicide, and they probably feel there's no alternative left but to get you into a hospital. When you intentionally do not take those
medications -- that, combined with other history (especially one of past suicide attempt) can be enough to get you into a hospital against your will.

So what's up?
