International searches at airports

Hello,

This topic may be a bit to 'local' and I understand it touches on local laws, but I figured that I would give it a try anyway.

I'm a black American that travels to Denmark quite a bit on business. I am asked once for my passport at customs (which is usual), but then at the 'goods to declare' corridor I seem to be singled out each time I pass by. I'm quite often asked for my passport again.

I've noticed that it seems to be people of color that are singled out and questioned.

The question is: Is it legal for this section to ask for my passport again? Am I legally required to show it again?

It is legal for customs to ask you to show your passport. However, it does sound like you are being singled out because of your race. The customs service has a reputation for detaining people because of race. There was a story in the news a few months ago. You can at least file a complaint with customs, if you don't want to consider litigation.
