What is the name of your state? Indiana. Under Indiana case law concerning "Knock & talk" searches it states, "Absent a clear expression by the owner to the contrary, police officers, in the course of their official business, are permitted to approach one's dwelling and seek permission to question an occupant". What would be consider a clear expression by the owner to the contrary? Thank you.

A big sign saying, "Go Away!" ... a locked gate to a fence surrounding the front yard ... telling the cops you do not want to talk with them ... etc.

A sign indicating no trespassing and no soliciting would not likely apply as the police would not be performing either one. Basically, so long as the general public has access to your door, the police will.
