I received a letter in the mail from a police department stating "As a pursuant to an investigation" that I have to contact the station and speak to the Criminal Detective.

I called the number listed on the letter and the detective want to talk next week. A friend of mine who studies law advised me not to go alone (without a lawyer or attorney)

My question is do I LEGALLY HAVE to accept the detectives request for me to go in and talk aka sign up for interrogation.
