What is the name of your state? New York

I had another question about my record (I pled guilty to a violation 9 years ago).

4 years ago I did a search on my own record with a company that retrieved criminal court records for employers and/or subjects of the record. The company physically sent a court retriever to the NY OCA(the court database) to retrieve my record.

When i got the results the report showed the disposition of the guilty plea to the violation and showed the sentence of conditional discharge and docket #.

However the original charge was noted to be "SEALED" and the casetype was noted "not specified".

I called the company and asked them why the original charge was sealed because I was curious. They tracked down the court retriever and according to her the OCA told her that the original charge was sealed and that the only info available was the guilty plea to the violation and sentence.

Still confused i called the OCA and asked them why the original offense was sealed. They gave me different answers. Some people said they sela the charge when you had the charge reduced; others said they used to do that but no longer do; others said they weren't sure.

Any ideas on this? Doesn't a background report show the original charge een if you pled guilty?
