What is the name of your state? California

Someone very close to me (an adult) was arrested for shoplifting (petty theft) for a second time. The first incident was last year, she pleaded no contest and was put on probation and to pay restitution.

What are the implications of this second incident? Any way to mitigate them?

Her family has sought professional counseling, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation and how her children and husband are affected by it.

This family is in real distress, any advise will be greatly appreciated.
